My Dad, a life-long electronics guy, asked me if I wanted any of his old ham radio gear (he's in his mid 80's now). I told him I'd like his desk mike, so he boxed it up and mailed it to me. I hadn't seen it in about 30 years. When I opened the package I found an early 40's JT-30 (he bought it new to record his church choir practice) in it's original box. I opened it up and found an element marked "Argonne, Japan". He doesn't remember changing it, but I have to think he must have. For some reason I haven't tried it yet. Anybody know anything about these elements?

I have a couple of Argonne stick mics with crystal elements and they sound sweet with a valve amp. Highly recommended.

I finally got around to plugging into my gently modified Valve Jr. You guys were right, this old mic sounds GREAT! I'm surprised the crystal element held up so well. Thanks for your input. ---------- I used to be young and foolish. Now I'm not so young.
