THE best crystals iv'e ever played belong to my bud pete sheridan( an astatic 101 in a T-3) and another friend has a brush crystal from a sperex he put in a biscuit. both these elements are louder, have more overtones, longer decay, and just sound sooooo good they kick CRs, CMs, ceramics, and IMHO dynamics ass six ways to sunday; if you are going to play amplified blues of course. i was wondering if it's still just 'the luck of the draw' getting an outrageous crystal element, or if anyone is out and about tweaking old crystals to improve their tone and volume. it was a sad day when the germans stopped making crystals.

My Astatic JT-30 from the fifties with a 101 Crystal is my go-to mic. I have had "Crystal Balls" mics from Kevin's Harps,a Hohner "Blues Blaster" from the first run,an 80's JT-30 BL,and a Black label CR from Chuck Gurney-which is the mic I use for chromatic work.
