So iv been thinking about selecting a cool blues name and im not sure what to do. My Real name is Nick Waters. It sorta sucks having Waters as a last name since someone so great (Muddy) has already used it. Im not even sure i need a stage name but i always thought it would be cool to have one. Heres a couple ideas i have. if you have any you think would be cool or if you think i don't need one let me know.
Nick "Roarin" Waters
Nick "Salty" Waters
Nick "Thirsty" Waters
Nick "Smokey" Waters
Nick "Nack" Waters
Or i don't need to use Nick at all.
What do you guys think?

I think nicknames are only cool, if they are given to you by someone (preferably a famous player) without asking for it. IMHO Nick Waters is already a great name for a blues player by itself. Those middle names sound a bit cheesy to me. Sorry, I'm just trying to be honest ...

Your given name is cool, and at least one of your names is not monosyllabic, unlike mine...
I like your forum handle. Not bluesey enough for you? Throw Blind or Lazy or Howlin' or Sonny or Slick in front of it....wait, I like that last one.
Slick Nick.
@Kyzer-Maps of the Zoo? Are you in an Emo or Shoegaze band? ----------

Look, you don't have to have a cornball name. Sometimes, one will just come to you with the passing of time.

Those above who said Nick Waters is cool by itself are right. I think having a "cool" nickname is starting to get uncool. So darn many people have nicknames, it's trite.
I guess a cool nickname could still work if there's a really cool reason for that cool nickname.

I agree with Bluefinger. A bluesey name is only cool if someone else 'christens' you with it. Making up your own, especially since your own name sounds pretty good anyway, is a little naff.

Hi Bro's in locale music scenes it's hard to get reconized,we adopt Stage names to stand out from the rest of the crowd,
just trying to get reconition around town at locale Jams is very harder,
my names Brett guess what,no one remembers Brett, Brett who!!!?
but they know who Nastyolddog is, this is how it works,
so you rock up to a new Jam night you ask to have a Blow, the guy askes who are you,Hi my names Brett Yeh Brett who!!?
Lets try that again with a stage name,
you rock up to a new Jam night you ask to have a Blow, the guy askes who are you??, The Names Nastyolddog,
Oh Yeh I remember i seen you at the Wicham park Bro, you go up to that irish pub to don't ya mate, yeh thats me Bro, yeh Hang around i will get you a slot,
You Have to have an advantage in the music world i would pick my own name because if some basterd called me,
Snoop Doggy Dog i would be pissed of how uncool is that, he won't ever make any money with a stupid nick name WTF was he thinking. :')

I agree with the guys who think you should just use your name. I also think that you don't need a nickname.. But if you miss a bodypart or something then that's something you can use. I cut of my right thumb at work years ago and everybody started to call me Nine-fingers. So we are putting together a band these days and the guys wanted Nine-fingers to be in it,and that's cool by me. But like some other here I think alot of these nicknames has been overused.
BUT,if I have to give you one.. I think Sirsucksalot is a cool name. What about "The SirSucksalots"? Or No-Nick Waters?

A few years ago I played in a band with a guitarist who had a prosthetic leg. He was a below-the-knee amputee, so he could walk normally and with long trousers on noone could tell he had a false leg. His other band was called 7'4"! Genius.

MrVery:
I live in Norway and there is a guy here that's named "Woodleg"-Odd:) I'm pretty shure he has a prosthetic leg, too. "Odd" is a very common first-name in Norway, actually. I know the english meaning of the word odd so that makes it a pretty strange name for a bluesband I guess:)

I think use your own name, or get named, or use your forum handle, which I've always thought was cool.

Nick Morganfield... Thats Great. I was even thinking of Nick Walters Cause all my teachers in school misread my name. Or how about "Dangerous Waters". Iv got an old wood state park sign that has big yellow carved letters saying "Dangerous Waters--- Stay on Trail" I Thought It would be cool to use on stage.
