Hiya folks,

My generation is the impatient generation. I don't even like emails or text messages, because they are not as instant as ... instant messaging.

Anyway, I think we need a video/voice chat. It's hard to find something good and free and simple enough for everyone to use quickly.

I came across Stickam

It's extremely simple! just create an account, and go into the "chat rooms". It supports a lot of people in a chat and everyone can have video/voice. You don't need any additional software. If you can play youtube videos (which requires flash player) then you can broadcast your video/voice.

Do you folks have an interest in setting something up? like a time where we can meet there and chat.

Check out my profile:

It's easy to setup videos, pics, and meet other musicians even.

odahumanity... that's funny! I'm not sure how well chat would work at scale. I certainly prefer it for 2-3 people, and I've been in chatrooms with a couple dozen people and survived. If everyone showed up it could be pretty crowded.

The other question is is there a record of the chat? One of the nice things about forums (and one of the downfalls) is that if we talk about something and someone has a great insight it's there for everyone to read later, even if they missed the original. (I have seen sites that keep chat logs, and sites that edit out the chatter and post the equivalent of meeting minutes...

I still don't have a web cam myself, although that will change as soon as I figure out what I want for my new computer.

Hey Oda, Hows things in TO man?

As far as a chat room???? Don't know. Never used one. Don't even have a webcam.

But, to see if it will be a go, why don't you set up a time and date to do something then post that here, invite all to attend and see how it works out?

That'll get it started.

Nacoran, unfortunately the log is not saved. I suppose you can simply copy/paste the text into a document?

I think if we were to set it up, it'd be quite organized. You can choose who you'd like to listen to of those available on cam/voice. Potentially, 2 people could jam as others listened and commented? and we can take turns.

Jus throwin' it out thur.

Xharp, things in TO are pretty good. I saw Carlos Del Junco for the second time. Also, I'm going to "El Mocambo" for the first time tomorrow.

Okay... I'll give it a start!

I'll setup the room Sunday (21'st) @ 1PM.

I'll post back here closer to the date with details.

For those interested, sign up for an account!

My experience with jamming online hasn't been great in the past--there is enough lag to throw everything into the crapper.

There was a Skype jam on harmonicaspace.com at one time--Friday evenings, I think--but it really wasn't a jam--just what I call a "circle jerk," where you just play in a round robin kind of way.

Anyway, I'm up for something along this line--one difficulty is coming up with a time that works for a guy in the UK, Malaysia, and US time zones--but it's all certainly worth a try. Maybe a link to chat could even be put on the left margin of Adam's site. . .

Sounds great oda, Carlos is awesome. Did you intorduce yourself? I'm told that he quite approachable.

Always like the Big Smoke it's a cool city.

Maybe we can get jawbone to come out and we'll do another mid city jam sometime. you up for something like that?

Now if only Isaacullah was coming by........

As for Sunday, I won't be at that chat because we are celebrating 201 years of birthdays this year. 1 turning 80, 1 turning 81 and one turning 40. Interestingly the 80 year olds can out shine the 40 year old in most things.

I didn't understand it to be a jam oldwailer. I thought it was just a live chat to discuss things harp and where others can get to each other in real time.

On line jamming doesn't work where line speeds and traffic create huge latency problems

Oh--well, I thought Oda had mentioned the potential for jamming earlier--but what he said was "Potentially, 2 people could jam as others listened and commented?" He probably meant that 2 people in the same area could jam--or whatever. . .

Yeah I just caught that down the post a few entries. Not sure that would work. Would have to see how the bandwidth plays with that.

Slightly off the topic, but, if people want to collaborate and lag is an issue maybe we could find a way for one person to play, the next person gets a recording of that and adds a track, records that, and so on...
