What do you recommend for a relatively inexpensive harmonica tuner?

I bought the $9 iStroboSoft tuner for my iPhone but now I'm seeing you may have to buy Sweetner packs for this tuner.

If you recommend something else, I could just get that instead.

If you recommend the iStrobosoft for iPhone, should I buy a sweetener pack AND if so which one? I only use Hohners (special 20s, rockets, rocket amp, and crossover, one of my special 20s is from 1998 but the rest of my harmonicas have been purchased within the last few years. I have a chromatic Hohner cx12 too.

Thanks, Doug

Have you checked the For Sale/Trade page. I left a response to your trade offer back on Jam 11th. The day you ask for a trade for your "G" Crossover. Again: Sorry to bring it up here, but thought maybe you have forgot about your listing. I'm still interested and my offer and info is still listed on the For Sale/Trade page. And I Thank You!!! Be great to get an answer???

I bought the sweetener packs, but IIRC, the app doesn’t need them to be useful, there are settings for major and minor Just.

The sweeteners they have with Peterson are all correct for any Hohner harp (the only one that does need that are the Golden Melodies, which are tuned to equal temperament).

As far as most chromatics go, unless you have an old Koch chromatic, they're ALL tuned to equal temperament, which is the default tuning for every tuner regardless of manufacturer.

Hohner quit using just intonation back in 1992 and have been using compromise tunings since then and the sweeteners are there for those.

BTW, if you take a look at the left side of this webpage, place your mouse on the dialog box that says Harmonicas for sale, another dialog box will immediately pop up. where you'll see a link for harmonica tunings that I penned with the tunings for diatonic tunings, including all the Hohner harps. Anything you don't see listed is in equal temperament. One of the DaBell harps uses a compromise tuning that Benny Yoon from DaBell has yet to inform me about, which is why it's not listed. However, 2 of the 3 models they have are equal temperament.

I have Lee oscars---golden melodies--sp 20---crossovers-- Manjies, on n on---tHey are all tuned different.

I dont have a good memory, so I have to refer to my books and Print outs I've made.

I think Lee oscars are tuned at 443Hz etc etc.

Pt being is;
U want a tuner thats 'chromatic' not one that is mostly for guitar.

U want to be able to adjust 440HZ to 441 to 442 443 etc---some dont do that.

Its also nice to be able to adjust the "cents" but not necessary

This one has a microphone as well as an input

You don't need sweetener packs. Just learn what the offsets are from equal temperament (measured in plus or minus cents) for the scale notes in the temperament you want, and tune accordingly. Barbecue has already mentioned the tables he came up with for this purpose.

Bob actually gave us a PDF that we have here on the site with a lot of the offsets.

https://www.modernbluesharmonica.com/f/TuningsForDiatonicHarmonicas.pdf

I was going to add a couple to add a couple to it at some point to bring it up to date... LO's aren't on there... I've got that somewhere from a post Winslow made. I think DaBell's newest harmonica isn't in ET, but I don't know the Temperament on it. I don't know if Easttop has any compromise tuned harps. Kongsheng, I think, you can special order other temperaments, and Seydel, I think offers 3 last time I checked.
