Has anyone tried the shaker mics? What did you think of it?

Yup. I have owned two-one got lost along the way. The standard Shaker with crystal or dynamic elements are both decent mics, and damn near indestructable. They are also light and easy to cup.

I had one of the Dynamics in the gig bag that got stolen. It was sturdy dependable and small. The sound was ok nothing phenomenal. I still prefer White American CM Bullets or American D-4T bullets, ugly as they are.

If you want a cheap, decent-sounding mic, try a Bottle o' Blues mic. And if you're a crafty kinda guy, a few folks on here have done instructables on making your own mics. I had the input on my sole remaining Shaker boosted with a transformer, as I found it to be a bit weak. It has its place, but I'm not wild about it for a blues sound.

I also have owned a couple of Shakers. They are not a bad mic. I had a "Madcat" dynamic and a Shaker crystal. The crystal was not to my taste and the Madcat was a bit anemic. They were both mics that I used early in my endevors of amped harmonica.

I don't care for the tone of the regular Shaker mics, but they are quite feedback resistant, moreso than a typical bullet mic with Shure CM element. There is a very good pro player here in the Denver area who plays a Shaker and gets okay tone.

I do like the BOB mics Todd mentioned. I carried one as a backup for years. Dark tone, but pretty cool.

In these videos I am using a "Shaker" dynamic mic, like women, they can be a very subjective subject.

Steve, I may be stating the obvious but that is some beautiful playing.

Got a Shaker dynamic and it rocks...play it through a Pignose like Steve and it sounds great. Even better through a valve amp.

I have two and they are good and dependable and much lighter than the bullet.

I owned two crystal Shakers. I sold them both. I never cared for the sound. I thought they sounded shrill.

I did not like the crystal "Shaker" mics either. But I do LOVE the "Shaker" dynamic mic tho.In the video below I am using a Shaker dynamic and Pignose 7-100 amp.
