I have more harps than I know what to do with, and, in practice, as that is all I do, I switch from Special 20's and Deltas and Manjis to Seydel Solist pros, which are more like Golden Melody in their spacing. Wondering if I should stick to one pattern or the other. Seems i feel more comfortable with the Special20 type spacing. I sometimes move to the Seydel because a couple of them really sound sweet. Do any real players out there - as opposed to a hacker like me - switch between wider spacing and "conventional" - Does it take a while to adapt?

From a learning perspective, should I stick to one spacing pattern? Observations welcome.

"I have more harps than I know what to do with"

give them to me.

i find that the hole spacing isnt what i have to adapt to when switching harps its my ambacher. (spelling?) the tickeness of the comb/coverplates is what throws me off some times. im used to the marine band which is probobly the smallest commonly used harp out there, an when i switch to a sp20 or manji or what ever i have to open my mouth more which effect tongue placement etc. its not like its such a big deal that i cant play it, but it will feel uncomfortable an i might mess up a bit.

Once you get the hang of it switching back and forth on different brands isn't nearly as big as just switching keys. Now, if you want to put it into perspective, try playing a Hohner Puck. After that you won't even notice the difference in regular harps.

Jon doesn't need them. He needs mics. More mics.

Well, He just got a Harrison. You can almost buy a set of Special 20's for that! Hey, if you like it, do it.

I can play regular Golden melody, SP20, wider Seydels, more wider Marine Band 364, more wider chromatics. No problems with hole spacing, I even wonder why.
