I have no idea where to get a spring, but in the meantime, I think I've heard of some people taking the slide off and playing top row-bottom row as a slideless chromatic. It will make a big difference if it's cross or straight tuned though.

I just checked harp online, they sell springs for some of the chromatics that they stock. Look under the spare part section for the model that you have.

yep Kingley is right. You can also find springs at Ace Hardware.
What a lot of pros do is get rid of the internal spring and get a strip of spring steel. It gets screwed into the back of the comb. I little notch is made on the other end and then you bend (not kink) the spring steel into place so the notch is right behind the button. ---------- "The privilege of a lifetime is being who you are." - Joseph Campbell

You could also contact William C Romel romel@earthlink.net
I was able to get help with chrom bits from William. He manufactures custom chroms so springs should be obtainable.

Bill Romel, unfortunately passed away about this time last year. he was awesome. Use the safety pin. It's a much better spring than the factory spring anyway. You just cut it to fit. ---------- www.harrisonharmonicas.com

Thanks guys, I never even thought of that. Im in aus so im not sure what Ace hardware is, but iv'e checked a few hardware stores down here to no luck. I would have thought that the nappy pin may have been too resistant? but i guess not - ill try it!

Ended up using the childproof pin, seems to work although its a bit stiff, but now the inside taper of the comb is too big for the screw??? so it keeps popping out on the right side. This never fucking ends...I think i just have to get a bigger screw though

I presume you mean one of the screws that hold in the slide assembly?
If it's a wooden comb you could try the toothpick method to tighten everything up. You just push a toothpick (or match depending on the size of the hole), then snap it off. Sand it flush with the comb being careful not to damage the comb. Then it should all hold together nicely.

yeah the slide assembly. Unfortunately it's a suzuki chromatix so plastic comb, but I think the larger screw should help it

Just a thought.
You could always try putting in some plastic filler. Then once it's set re-drill it for the original screw. If you didn't want to particularly use a larger screw.

CJames > I also am in Aus & I have a Chromatix which initially gave me probs ie windsavers. I purchased the Chromatix online from the US so our local Suzuki agents in Aus ignored me ie I don't really think they have any techs or any local knowledge. I contacted the US supplier who suggested I contact Brendan Power. They supplied his email contact details. Brendan was very forthcoming with suggestions on how to overcome/ fix the problem.

Thanks for all your help guys, Aussie - i thought about contacting brendan power. I got into contact ith a bloke and mandoharp over east ho said he had contacts but hasnt replied for weeks...luckily however...i have fixed all my problems. The bolt hole wasnt actually stripped, i just didnt know there was a tiny nut slotted into the inside of the comb, so when i went to push it in, it would butt up against the edge of the nut cause it wasn't in position properly. its all back together no and running smoothly. thanks again everyone!
