I liked Moses Concas's stuff, although the AGT performance was just schtick. I think if you see how shows like that have treated harmonica players in general though I can see why maybe he went that way.
But Son of Dave, like John M G said, has a hook. That's something that I think more harmonica players need to work on. Think of an all harmonica channel... if a particular song that you've heard before comes on will you immediately recognize it? Son of Dave gets that. A lot of harmonica players don't. What's the line, "Their A&R man said, "I don't hear a single"".
If you were on a station playing music in your chosen genre would you be just another song or would you stand out and be a song that got requested.
I like Son of Dave. Bonkers isn't my favorite, but the second I hear it I recognize it. It's an earworm. So is his cover of Black Betty. We need more earworms.
I guess it's different for a lot of people, but Son of Dave is THE reason I started taking harmonica seriously... I saw him on Later with Jools Holland, and I went out and bought a loop pedal that same week and tried to play "Hellhound" with NO idea what I was doing.
He's got a way of making everything and anything instantly recognizable, and instantly danceable. That's a trait that a lot of harmonica players lose sight of. I know I do! Every time I hear a Son of Dave tune I'm reminded to refocus have fun!
Cheers,
