I gather that there was a kerfuffle on the Modern Blues Harmonica Facebook group earlier this week when somebody there--not me--posted a YouTube video of mine entitled "all my people are immigrants," with a subtitle that contained the word "apologizes" and "for our president." It wasn't appropriate for the MBH FB group and it hadn't occurred to me to post it there. But somebody did, and it precipitated some harsh discussion, or so they tell me, and the thread was deleted.

Since I didn't see any of that conversation, merely heard about it at second hand, it doesn't mean much to me. But I have, of course, seen all the response on the YT video itself--including far more dislikes than any other video I've uploaded to YT in the past 12 years, and including a range of negative responses. Some of those responses showed up shortly after the video went live, suggesting that they were based not on the video itself but merely on the video title.

The responses, including at least one that invoked my Jewish heritage in a negative way, don't surprise me. I would merely note that the video in question was entirely calm and civil and didn't engage in any name calling. I'm not even sure that I actually uttered the word "Trump." I called him "the president" and "our president" and "my president."

Everything I've written here so far is OT. But I'm not putting OT in the title of this thread because the video I post below falls, as far as I know, entirely within "The Rules" (the forum creed). (It also contains periodic snatches of harmonica playing.) It's about an important aspect of the blues--one that, unfortunately, makes it something that I can't post on the Facebook Blues Society or the Modern Blues Harmonica FB group.

I'd like to believe that we can, here, have an honest and informative conversation, with lots of shared videos, about the subject at hand.

Below the video, I'll post a link to a short Spotify playlist that I worked up to illustrate my theme.

Here are several songs mentioned in the video that weren't on Spotify:

Here's a couple more deep blues about a politically charged period.
