My wife and I play senior centers and memory loss facilities, among other things.
I have been reading about recreated towns reminiscent of the Good ol days till about the 1950's or so.
Stated another way times of less stress before computers etc..
Wondering if anybody has seen or visited any of them or played music at such a 'town'
thanks

I haven't gone to any but I saw a news piece on them. It's a pretty cool idea.

One of my aunts on my mother's side has some form of dementia. We've tried getting her help but she gets paranoid and she's cogent enough of the time that we haven't been able to get the authorities involved, but she's far enough gone to have accused several people of stealing large amounts of money from her because she just couldn't remember which bank it was in. So far it's always turned up in one of her accounts but she keeps bouncing from place to place and we're afraid one of these times she's going to end up with someone who takes it all. :(

I see that they mention anxiety often when they mention alzheimer's and we see it sometimes on the faces of some of the people. Since people may have varying degrees, we sometimes think some people are very aware and anxious to what extent they are affected and if they are missing anything or have been good or bad etc.

They say the "towns help relive some of that and even if they don't necessarily remember why but seem happier for awhile and things were once as they remembered them.
I am here in the north east of the states and it seems that some of the malls or shopping centers could be converted..but I need to read up on the subject.

We are in our mid 60's and figure most people are 15 or 20 yrs older than us.
Playing harp I of course like some blues or actually boogie music, and then over to swing music...feel good music in general..mostly nice upbeat stuff.

I was curious if in other parts of the country if the actually make little mock towns for folks to stoll and get a soda ..etc

..also curious if they are doing the same in other countries..
thanks

I think this was the article that I saw on them.

I used to be a part of a choral group that used to sing at regular nursing homes. People seemed to get a lot of enjoyment out of it.

Thanks, that was an excellent link.

It is said that music is the last to leave, though we tend to reassure them that music will never leave them, or us.
