I'm starting to work on a cover version of Radiohead's Morning Bell. I am playing guitar and singing, and looking to add in a harp solo, and maybe a harp pattern on the outtro. I will play from the rack while strumming guitar. It is a sad and violent song... so it is definitely a "blues" song (although not the blues genre).

The song is in Am. The basic chord progression is: Am, Amaj7, G, D.

I'm thinking about a number of options: 3rd position G-harp, 3rd position High-G-Harp, 2nd position D-harp, 1st position A-harp... or maybe I should buy a minor harp and play a mouthful of minor chords on the rack)...

I will start to dig into it this weekend. I would love to hear your thoughts/ideas on how to approach it... and especially if any of you have done the song before.

Not knowing this song at all, but going just by the chords you mention, my first inclination would be 2nd Position "D" - as long as one OWNS that 3 hole inhale first bend.

Radiohead is tough to cover! My old guitar player/vocalist and I did a cover of Creep once I think turned out pretty good but I've heard a lot of people crash and burn on it. Amanda Palmer, who is usually one of my favorite artists, did a whole album of covers that was terrible!

Are you going to be doing it all up in the upper register like they do? (We moved ours down.) Interested to hear what you come up with.

Thanks Iceman. I was thinking the same. However, playing on the rack I struggle to hit precise bends. So I don't want to depend on a bent note as a main note. I am starting to play around a bit on the high end of a G-harp. But I will go back to the D and work some more on it.

Nate - I can sing it in the high register. Also - I'm trying it with the Am/Amaj7 part (Morning Bell) moved down, and the G/D part kept high (Release Me). I'm not really sure yet where I'll go with it...

Here's an interesting cover I found:

I have little knowledge on it but it is hard for me to cover Radiohead's Morning Bell with these mentioned chords but you can do it if you are enough skill. Here, I found one cover
