OK, I just got this thing and thought I might have had a bad speaker. Now I'm not sure what is going on. I first noticed my amp farting when I would hit a particular note. Generally it sounds very good.... BUT if I gently tap any part of the chassis, a tube, speaker frame or case with say a pencil,it makes this braaaapy sort of fart sound.

Any ideas appreciated.

I am not an amp tech...

IMHO

Perhaps a tube has become microphonic?

With the amp off for a few minutes and unplugged, I would remove and reseat each tube 2 or 3 times, just in case there is oxidation on the pins or sockets.

Generally if a tube picks up a resonant frequency or responds to a gentle tap, it is microphonic and needs replacement.

Hopefully an amp tech will chime in?

Doug is on the right track. Could be any number of things. Speaker, tubes, poor connection, or a defective component.

Try a different speaker first.
Check for microphonic tubes by cranking amp without anything plugged in.
Tap gently on tubes with a pencil or chopstick to test for micrphonics.

If those two check ok you can try a chopstick test on all of the electronic/electrical components with the amp on, cranked up with nothing plugged in.

CAUTION!!

It's can be dangerous!!
It's similar to a the microphonic tube test except your tapping all of the components to find a bad connection.
Caps and resistors can be microphonic.

Watch a YouTube video on chopstick test assuming there available if you not familiar with the process.

FYI, I am not an amp tech, more of an intermediate.

That's not how you usually get a brown note is it?

Sorry, I know. Potty humor.
