Hi folks,
I have a Shure Spher-O-Dyne 533a and its output has suddenly dropped after I attempted to replace a dead slide switch. Although I was a careful as I could be it now seems to have turned into a low impedance mic. I think the transformer is shot!
I Jerry rigged an impedance transformer I had around and it sounded a LOT better. Does anyone know where I could find a proper replacement transformer that will fit and give the same specified output? I also really can’t tell how to get the old one out! Any help would be GREATLY welcome.

Well, upon examining the mic and transformer a bit more and performing some serious bench top “spaghetti” work with jumper leads I have found out that (apart from the jammed up switch) everything is still fine.
As I had delved into the dark (and frankly, GOOEY) depths of the mic, a bit of surgery was in order. I trimmed off the bottom 30mm of the mics body. I fitted a new Switchcraft 2501m fitting. That has shortened the mic and made it a full 50 grams lighter. This is ideal as I want to fit an in-line volume onto the mics connector and the less weight and leverage on the mic the better.
I eventually worked out the wiring I was happy with and closed everything up...minus the mystery goo Shure used to put in.
MAN I love this mic! It’s fat and raunchy when cupped and pushed and has some good output. ---------- Tom "Bad Paw" Lauten Loch Ness, Scotland www.nimbacreations.com

Glad you got it working. My electrical skills top out at plugging things in. If you didn't get it figured out I was gonna page Greg to the thread.
