I would find it helpful if Harp Forum members created a profile with their name, email address and, if you choose, website or background info/profile. There are times I'd like to send an email or know a little more about the person who posted something. Just click on "Account" (next to the "Login") and "Edit your member info".

A lot of us do have that info. I tried actually once to make a list with hotlinks to each member's profile but we've literally got thousands of members. It's on my thread organizer link, but it's hopelessly out of date.

I'd add a picture to my profiles but I'm in WITSEC ever since I testified against the anti-harmonica mafia and I don't want to.. oh, where is that delete button...

I know some people like keeping more private. We have a policy of not sharing anyone's email (that is, we won't share it. You are welcome to share your own emails in your profiles but we don't share the ones you register with.) If you need to get in touch with someone I can play pass the note and let them know by email though.

But yes, I encourage people to post as much info in their profiles as they feel comfortable doing. I do suggest scrambling your email a little, like Joe at gmail dot com, because there are web crawlers out there that will harvest emails that are written out normally and then you'll end up on spam lists.

You can either add info to your profile or add it to your signature.

This site is low security. Often my browser warns me “site not secure “

JInx, that's because it uses http instead of https. That doesn't really effect user profiles that users post. Those are public anyway by design. It also doesn't make the back end particularly more vulnerable. It does mean that a third party could theoretically have an easier time intercepting your password to the site when you sign in. You should never use the same password across multiple sites though. If you follow that advice the worst that could happen is someone could hack your MBH account. It still would involve a lot of hacking and we have other protocols in place to help recover an account in that case. Someone could make posts pretending to be you or change your profile. For most people that would be annoying but not critical. The few exceptions would be people who conduct a fair amount of business with their loggins, but I suspect even guys like Tom wouldn't be effected too much.

There have been other security bugs over the years, including a couple I found, that they patched when they were brought to their attention. Until about a year ago HTTP was still so common that browsers didn't complain about it, but they are pushing it now because it really is something that should be done.

That said, our server hosts are (finally) getting around to updating to HTTPS, although there still isn't a firm timeline. They are also looking at making some improvements to site accessibility. I sent them a few links about some ADA lawsuits going through the courts about things like having audio captchas and after saying they weren't concerned about it they upgraded to 'we'll look into it'.

Of course, all of this means that I'm easier for the Anti-Harmonica Mafia to track down, but that's okay. I've got my amplifiers aimed at the doors. If they come for me I'll take a few of them with me and maybe even win a couple converts before they take my harmonicas from my cold, dead hands! :)

Nate, have you looked at that ‘Harmonica lesson by david Barets’ thread? (Down the page a little) I think Doug has a point; it looks very dodgy

SuperBee, thanks. Got it.

Edit- It's a shame ghost writing papers is such a sleazy thing to do. I can bang out a decent paper in no time, complete with just enough spelling errors to make it look authentic. (There is a rumor with some pretty good sourcing that a major official in my state government got an entire dissertation written for them so they would qualify for their position.)
