I know there are a few inventors here on the board. I'm trying to become one too. One of the things I'm finding out is the minute you have to start sinking money into things with the outside hope that you will break even is it becomes much harder to brainstorm with people. You immediately become paranoid. So far, I've learned it helps to know people's reputation. I've got some good advice already.

So I guess, the point of this thread is to sort of ask about people's experiences coming up with inventions. How do they network. Who are good sources for different parts of projects? What are other people's experiences with the big companies? I'm kind of intimidated by the price tags I've heard through the grapevine if you get one of the big companies to produce something! What are alternate avenues for producing something. Would people be interested in kits to build things (which might require doing their own reed work?) Kickstarters? Contacts with companies... confidentiality agreements (so far I'm trusting the people I've talked to on reputation), what are people's thoughts and experiences?
