I've got a youtube channel where I predominantly post videos playing 3-stringed home-made guitars and such. But I've finally got up the courage to post one of the "songs" I'm working on.
I'd appreciate the wisdom of the group here. I would describe my playing as "sloppy," "breathy," and altogether "less than stellar"... but I'm willing to be convinced otherwise. It's a work in progress. The shaker groove and singing are sloppy too... (Yikes! What was I thinking posting this?!)
Perhaps more importantly, I'm looking for advice on what to practice and study that might help move my playing in a new direction. (An abvious example might be tongue blocking...)
Ok, now I’m ready to see 3 string gee-tar, racked harp and foot operated percussion! You got the one man band thing happenin’, which I happen to like. Just keep at it. The song lyrics seemed pretty good, but I found it hard to catch them all. I think you’re right, though, just get everything a little bit tighter. Check out Deak Harp, Son of Dave, and our own Adam Gussow, for further inspiration, if you haven’t already.
One of the more fun videos I've seen in a while. Good stuff.
I've been building and playing 3-stringers for many moons, and encourage you to post some vids featuring harp and CBG/strum stick. ---------- •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• "Humor is always the first victim of political correctness."
Pretty cool, man. I don't do percussion or strings at all but harp and vocs have carried me a long way. Of course my guitar/voc partner/wife has kept my in the groove for years now.
We have a Gone Fishin' on our latest CD, It Was A Dark and Stormy Night. All Original self produced.
I had a square neck Regal for a while, I was working on lap slide to accompany, but it went the way of many things in this life. ----------

Don't stop what you're doing, just keep on getting out there and keeping on. The more you do, the better it gets and you get and like everyone else I'd drop some dollars in your hat. Love the percussion too, I may have to have a go at borrowing that! I like your voice too. Here's someone else you may like to have a look at, Juzzie Smith that's got the one man band thing going. Worth a look to get some different ideas. He's got a few videos you might want to have a look at. Check him out on YouTube. Cheers JG
You passed my test. Watched the full video and felt entertained. I am jealous regarding the percussion because I've tried it and it is not as easy as you make it look.
Thank you for all the great feedback. Yes, Crown Royal sacks are easy to come by in Manitoba for some odd reason... ;)
robbert: I do a lot of loop-pedal stuff for my solo project. Son of Dave was a huge influence! I agree, the lyrics get muddied up in there. Need to find a way to clean it up.
Rontana: I'll have to put together some more videos that combine the CBG's and the harp. Only one I've done so far is Summertime (and the livin is easy) from a summer or so ago. I really should do more.
John M G: I'll have to check that guy out more. I watched one or two of his videos and he's crazy! Juggling meets percussion and harp? Wild!
Thanks for everyone's input. Feel free to rip it up a bit more. I'm looking for ways to improve.
