Howzit all, For customizers w/ a bit of patience and who don't mind a bit of a learning curve I suggest trying out arzajac's AKA Andrew Zajac's F-Tool. Flattening draw plates w/ flat sanding is fairly easy but blow plate reeds get in the way of sanding. Also sometimes you come across bowed reed plates. Flat sand your head off but that may only make your harp leakier. Right now I have a couple of MBDs w/ bowed blow plates and am making slow but very positive progress straightening them w/ Zajac's F-tool. I've already used it on a few harps and had great success. RockinRonsMusic4Less had the F-tool on sale last I looked. But even full price the tool is a gem. I can't say how pleased I am w/ it. I will give a warning here though. This is for a person used to precision work and not easily discouraged. Be sure to watch his tutorial several times and start on harps you don't use or value. I keep donor reed plates so I can bend them without ruining my stock of reeds. Cheers, Andrew!! Mahalo for this great invention. ---------- Reasonably priced Reed Replacement and tech support on Hand Made Series Hohner Diatonic Harmonicas.

I concur. The F-Tool is awesome! Super simple to use once you understand the principles involved. I'm interested in ordering the new "reed plate claws," which appear to be his latest improvement on the F-tool. A close look at the photo reveals an improvement to his flatness tool as well! http://harp.andrewzajac.ca/FLTPK
In practice, I've come to realize that my own impatience is likely responsible for 80% of the things I break while playing or maintaining a harmonica. In my rush to fix problem A, I end up causing problem B.... and C... thru F.
Luckily for me (and all of us!), Andrew Zajac likely has a tool designed specifically to fix whatever it was I went and broke!
