Hi. Can anyone recommend a website that allows you to upload sound samples and then provide an embed code to create a compact and neat music player on the Forum? Soundcloud is a bit cumbersome and the websites I used to use no longer provide one. Thanks

It's a clunky work around, but you can always go into a movie editing suite, throw a picture up for the whole video and upload it to YouTube and embed from there. More and more sharing sites seem to be putting restrictions on free services. I think maybe those were all come-ons to build market share and the market may be saturated... a weird case where more options means less competition.
I submitted an idea on the YouTube forum recently. I suggested they add a feature that let you upload pure audio and select a picture from the public domain to run over it. Heck, they could even run soundless ads. It seems with their market share they could corner the space in no time. (I used to use dropbox, but they changed their whole linking system).

Thanks Nate. Have already tried the Youtube solution but it's a bit of a pain. Yes it's strange regarding the restrictions. In the old days there was the simple Quicktime player which worked well and so many others.

I did my first post of my playing using Nacoran's method. I downloaded Windows movie maker and did exactly what he described then posted it to YouTube then to here. I fumbled my way around and got a result. Cheers JG

Soundcloud's classic embed works fine for me. What's the issue?
Edit: Here it is, not the most compact but looks fine to me:
You can also edit the height or width easily by changing the value of those variables in the embed code. I.e. height="70" instead of 166 as shown here, but you lose the ability to track the music as you cut off the bottom:

I’ve been using box. There’s an embed widget but you have to find it, they haven’t made it particularly intuitive to locate, but it’s also not difficult once you figure out it’s not under the ‘share’ options but under ‘other’ (or whatever synonym they’ve used)

Thanks for the responses guys and the samples. The issue is related to glitches on my browsers on my old pc and new smartphone. I have been using the box for a while Superbee and you’re correct in that the embed widget bit is hidden away but neither this or Soundcloud will work at all on Opera or Chrome on my desktop PC which is my preferred device as the soundcard is excellent and is hooked up to my stereo amp.
Both Apps are glitchy on my Smartphone but they do work on my Laptop. I am aware of the resizing method on the widgets and Youtube come to that.
All the previous players I used, that are no longer available, were compact and easy to control and worked. My favourite one was in the form of a circle with play and pause in the middle and a drag able progress bar that went round the circumference.

Hey Grey Owl,
I think the solution here is to figure out why soundcloud doesn't play on your chrome browser, because it should.
Is chrome up-to-date? What happens when you play the soundcloud player in my post?

I don't think Chrome supports my OS any more. It's strange but your samples show up fine but won't play and my SoundCloud sample plays but the image comes and goes. The box initiates download but doesn't complete.
I have accumulated so many programmes etc over the years on this pc that I'm loath to losing it. I don't think this problem is fixable and that is why I was looking for alternatives with a compact and very simple interface like the old QuickTime widget.
I have searched high and low and no luck. I have no idea why this area which was so well served has dried up, maybe a copyright issue?
I thought I saw a post on the forum a little while ago with an alternative player so maybe someone knows the source. ---------- YouTube

Ahh I see Grey Owl, I think it's definitely fixable. If it's a compatability thing then it's probably worth clearing up your PC now before it degrades further, which it will. A decent computer specialist can do this for you in an hour or less, if you tell them you just want the soundcloud widget to function properly on chrome they should be fine.
What OS are you using? Windows 7/8? Is your chrome up to date? Is there an orange or red asterisk in the top right corner or the chrome browser? Click it and find the update button.
Could skype you to help if you'd like.

Thanks for the feedback One Palm John.
Don’t laugh but my old PC (Athlon 64 processor 3700+ and 2.75 GB Ram) is running on Windows XP Service Pack 3 and I have ditched a lot of unnecessary stuff and cleaned up with a Registry cleaner. It still works fine for most stuff (photo editing through Adobe Photoshop and video and sound editing). I have discovered ‘this computer will no longer receive Google Chrome updates’ because Windows Vista and XP are no longer supported. So there lies the problem!
I’ve always got my Windows 7 Laptop so all is not lost though I prefer my current Desktop setup. I will unfortunately have to upgrade sometime in the near future I suspect because XP support is dwindling. Also on the Antivirus software AVIVA & AVG do still offer support but they are very system resource hungry on my PC.
EDIT:- I have just downloaded Mozilla Firefox and it works!! Nice Chromatic Sample BTW

Ha ahh okay. I know some people still run XP, glad you found a workaround though - that's great!
That sample was recorded on a LO natural minor, not chromatic by the way, thank you though!
