After learning Lonesome Campfires I'm looking to expand my repetoire and dive into some more challenging and expressive harmonica instrumentals, what are some of your favourites?
"Steady" and "Honky Tonk", by Jerry McCain. I think that Jerry McCain is underappreciated. He's got a real ear for melody. ---------- Marc Graci YouTube Channel
I like JJ Milteau's work. He's written a lot of great melodies across the genres. His CD Harmonicas shows a nice variety of styles including Sailor and the Maid (irish influnce and fast) Boogie Mix (very fast Boogie) and Blue hop. Blues Hop is a strong melody and is doable and covers the range of the harp pretty well. I might have the backing track somewhere.
"Christo redentor" usually comes up when this topic is alerted. I´d suggest a live version with Canned Heat before Charlie M´s (more precise intonation -- player is called Dave Spalding, I think), from an album called, "Songs from the road" or some such.
Little Walter`s Rollercoaster Ride,Thats a top of the hill instrumental blues. It has jazz saxophone licks and chord runs also turnarounds in it.That jam is a major study for any blues blower.....
