The SADE tune. Anyone ever fool around with playing the sax lines on harmonica? What position is most effective?

This is a tune that the black chick I'm working with who sings and plays piano does. She does it in Dm. I'm getting around on it ok in third position using a C harp, but I would like to be able to nail the sax lines note for note and I'm having difficulty with that. When I look at the chord changes, it seems like third position may not be the optimum choice. There's actually some decent harp tab on the web for the melody but I can't tell what position the tab is actually written in.

Listening to the original, it's in D minor. For a lot of the song, third position on a C harp would work, as the 6th degree of the scale (Draw 3 and 7) seems to work as a non-bent note.

However, at some points, there's a turnaround of Bb-C-D minor, and over the Bb chord you'd need to bend the Draw 3 down and avoid the Draw 7.

If I try it in 4th position on a Low F, that seems to flow nicely, too. In some ways it's more interesting than the familiar and well-worn pathways of playing in third.

Thanks Winslow! I'm comfortable in 4th and I was thinking about trying it in 4th. The tab I was referring to looks like it might be in 5th, but I'm not actually sure about that. But yeah, the presence of the Bb chord was what had me thinking that using 3d might not be the best approach.

I use an A minor harp by Lee Oskar. It's perfect for this. I play this and that Baker Street song. The one with arguably the most recognized saxophone line in the world. Sultry...
I love the a-minor harp. Use it all the time. Also good for House of the Rising Sun if you're too lazy to learn it on a normal diatonic. Or you can play in the land of OZ where the ladies wear no bras and the men don't care if they wear their underwear. Anyone know that one?

Depends who's playing it in third ;)

CarlA, no, who's playing in first. What is playing in second.
