While I prefer having the key engraved into the end my harp combs, I'm going to have to replace a bunch of my engraved combs due to chemical contamination, grrr....

Anyway, the new combs will need some labeling and I'm looking at the label selection at Rockin' Ron's. Figured I'd give the bubble style (not flat) glow labels a try and I'm looking for feedback from those who have tried one or both of the varieties Ron offers, which are the Hohner and I believe the turbo harp. I'm particularly interested in how you'd rate the labels in the following categories:

1. Brightness of the glow.

2. Ease of reading in both the light and the dark. This probably has as much to do with the letters themselves as the glow factor.

3. How long does the glow last after exposure to light. How well does the glow continue to work over time - months, years.

4. How well do the labels stick, dry and when the harp gets wet?

5. Any other durability issues, such as how resistant to scratching is the surface of the label?

Seems like an awful lot of questions about simple little key bubble stickers, now that I write it all down, lol. But hey, any feedback would be helpful and appreciated, Thanks!

That really wasn't that many questions, while i didn't buy those brands, I got the ones for the 1847 noble, Ron's has those as well, here's the reasons i picked those over the others.

1. They stick out from the comb.

2. On the harps that came with them, I could read the labels in a dimly light room, they don't glow in the dark.

3. They are the same size as the comb on the 1847, Manji's, ect, so they wont overlap onto the reed plate and get broken when it's time to clean or do other work on the harp.

4. Everything I have ever bought that claims to glow in the dark, seems to work best when a light is on it then the brightness goes south pretty quick, then I stand there squinting and getting mad that this thing that glows in the dark isn't bright enough to see, then I just end up grabbing a flashlight anyway, well there's my Sunday afternoon rant, felt good, LoL.

5. Since i just got mine i cant say how long they last but they are the same ones Seydel uses on $100 dollar plus harps so,,, thats as far as my thinking goes.

Hope it gave ya something to go on.

Thanks FIbI, I appreciate that. Great minds must think alike, because I already have some of the Seydel Noble labels you mentioned, and I like them! My reasons for considering something else is that I can't see them in the dark, and they are on the expensive side for what you get. Although, considering what I've spent on harps I really shouldn't gripe about label prices, lol.

Anything labeled "Glow-In-The-Dark" will have a very limited response once the lights go dim. They need to absorb the energy from the light to glow at all. The biggest problem I have encountered, and I have the ones from Turboharp, is that the adhesive will succumb to too much heat and release. Using a secondary adhesive can correct that problem though I usually just push them back on and apply pressure.

Thanks Raven. Bummer about the heat. I just ordered the turbo harp stickers yesterday. Ah well, guess I'll see how they work out.

Haven't really had a lot of problems with them coming loose...only a few. It's probably not a good idea to subject our harps to too much temperature variation anyway. I had two ABS combs crack from leaving them in my car in cold weather. Haven't had any problems with the composites or aluminum combs. Didn't care for some labels I received that don't show up well on certain combs depending on their color. Clear labels with black print just don't work on ABS combs unless you paint a little white on there first. Maybe we should use braille stickers so that we don't need to see them in the dark! (Just have to learn to read braille!)

Raven you can work on that Braille idea.I've done it.Well not exactly braille as such but my version of it.
One dot of your ladies nail polish, bright orange or whatever she is into... that's A, two dots is C..3 dots is D ,4 dots is F and 5 is G.(as in keys of the harp not second position)
It is surprising how tactile our finger tips are in this context. And fingernail polish can harden to a nice little bump. And it does,as a bonus show up quite well in a darkish club/bar.
That's the standard range of Harps that will get you through a Blues Gig or jam.
I have some harps set up for eg third position harp(raised 3 blow)
Same numbering but i use a different colour.
It is easy to set up your own personal system,I have to say, especially if you mainly play pretty straight forward
blues
If your carrying a huge arsenal of alternative tunings well it could get complicated..............;-)

I don't think anyone has marketed anything with it for harp, but there are some very small battery powered LEDs. I mean, they've had lights for watches for years, but there are really small lights you could power with a watch battery, things like this...

https://true2scale.com/miniature-3v-led-lighting/

https://www.amazon.com/Pack-Flat-Disc-Golf-Lights/dp/B00QLU55VC/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1509514666&sr=8-7&keywords=led+stickers

Nothing quite perfect fully assembled that I've found yet, but the scale and prices for the parts seem to suggest it's doable. Countersink the end for a small watch battery?

For someone handy it wouldn't be hard to rig up a button light to light the end of the harmonica up (either so you can see regularly labels, or as part of something fancier.)

At a slightly bigger scale you could do something in your case.
