I was reading the posts on mentorship and it grabbed me that Walter was likely exactly right...you want it, chase it.
I'm a grown man as most of you know, I picked up the harp again after years of not playing. Life has thrown me some curves...big deal, it happens.
Where would a man move if he had no roots that would be close to the music, the harps, and meeting players that will actually teach?
I'd need someplace rent friendly, and yeah a bad neighborhood is fine. I would contribute to the ambience most likely.
Odd question I know but I found myself in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan...no harps...no music....any suggestions? I know it's odd but this is a serious question guys.
One player pointed out that I "fill a niche" here...but with nobody to jam with....I'm just not a strong enough player to chase the music totally alone.
So where would you go, assuming you could just walk away and not look back, perhaps would be more proper verbage.
Any serious answer as to possible locales appreciated, as always.

Chicago, Memphis, Texas and Mississippi are usually the best places for Blues stuff, I like chicago espically because of Maxwell Street. If it was up to me id move to Chicago, crashing at my friends place and find the nearest Chicago blues band. I dont know how to get there though, maybe id bus?
couchsurfing.com is usually the best place to crash for cheap in any city in the world, of course you could always squat but hey, new material for songs right?

It's not rent friendly, but there seems to be a cluster of forum members out in San Diego. (My dad lives out there. It's a gorgeous city.)
I hear good things about the Austin music scene (one of our best local singers just moved out there because of the scene, which sucks for us, but what can you do?)
I guess I don't know the baseline to compare against. Where I live you can find an open mic just about every night, there are blues jams, there are a few good venues, but nothing that will pay your bills. I don't know if that's normal, good or bad.
