Ok, is my mind playing weird games with me or what? I have searched the internet but find nothing. I did find vintage photos of old Marine Bands but the really old photos are black and white so no help. I seem to remember, as a child in the 60's that Marine Bands had the ends of the Tines painted yellow? Or am I just having wrong childhood memories. Or maybe it wasn't Marine Bands? Problem with that is that in the 60's what the hell else would have been around that I would come across?

oh, I dunno. I remember looking at the tines during the 60's and they were all different day glo colors and were pulsating, for some unexplainable reason...

You could ask on Harmonica Collectors on Facebook. Doug Dawson or Ken Leiboff might know.

They have a particularly specialized set of harmonica knowledge. (Barbeque Bob might know too.)

Combs *were* painted a yellow/orange on the front and black on the the back and ends up until 2011 when sealed combs were introduced. The exact shade probably varied over the 115 years they were doing it.

Thanks timesitight. I just have this vague memory of these yellow dots on harmonicas when I was a kid. It's possible it wasn't even Hohner and just some toy, but I don't remember having any harmonica toys or even seeing any around as a child. My father did by me a marine band when I was very young though. I had to be younger than 7. I still have it although it's in pieces and the covers are rusted. But that comb is brown. I don't know. Strange.

I've had some more 'yellow' than others iirc. I was surprised at how 'orange' is an early 80s example I have. My late 00s Ab is quite yellow I think, by comparison
