I'm a total novice Harmonica player, but I'm not new to playing Blues, as I'm a Pro Tuba player of almost 40 years experience, and have played HEAPS of Blues based music in that time. I was practicing on my F harp (Suzuki Bluesmaster) yesterday, and during one improvised section, my natural horn-playing instincts came out and I started doing some Triple Tonguing on Harmonica. I've since searched on YouTube to see if I can find any recording or triple tonguing for harmonica, and so far have found absolutely nothing! I'm no great shakes harmonica player, only been playing for about 6 weeks, so please pardon a few duff notes here and there, but I thought I would share this, and the effect you can get from triple tonguing, and some of you more experienced players may wish to take it on and develop it. Here we go then....wish me luck folks!

Harp players have already been doing this. A really good example is Whammer Jammer It starts at around 2:10:

This has been one of the techniques that eludes me. I just can't get it up to speed like Magic Dick does in the post above.

It's a great effect, though.

So I was seriously trying to explain this J.Geils live video to the wife and she just looks at me after my detailed technical explanation and say's "Triple tongueing on the Magic Dick?" with a funny look on her face.

Tank, when you want to embed a YouTube video click the 'share' button, then the embed button and then cut and paste that. :)

Nice video. One of the exercises I've been doing lately is trying to play fast rhythms with different time signature using tonguing. Tonguing is a great way to get fast hits. The only way I can think of that's maybe faster is doing rolled R's in a controlled fashion, and that only works on blows.

I'm not focused enough to sit down and memorize Morse Code, but tonguing a single high hole can get a pretty neat Morse Code sound with a little work. :)

You can get the effect mentioned above in Whammer Jammer by saying

Diddly, diddly, diddly, diddly

This works more smoothly on harmonica (at least for me) than ta-ka-ta, ta-ka-ta, ta-ka-ta, ta-ka-ta.

You can hear Junior Wells using the double-tongue version of this technique (diddle, diddle) on "Somebody's Tippin' In," starting about 0:58:

Similar to Winslow's advice. I was told to say:
"diddle it, diddle it"

Different articulations will get you slightly different sounds. The song of ours I do it on I think I'm going to to to with a little more emphasis on the first to.
