Oblivion by the Argentinean composer Astor Piazzolla. I'm playing a Bb harp in 3rd position. (Correction - 12th)

Really pretty! And the OB was difficult to detect as a "note of extended technique" . . .
The bridge, of course, moves to 12th.

Gnarly JustFuya and Nacoran. Thanks guys I really appreciate that!

Gnarly. Your mention of 12th on the bridge made me look again at my suggestion of playing in 3rd. I think I was wrong. Could it all be in 12th. I believe the backing is in Cminor having found Bb,Eb and Ab on my keyboard, so playing a Bb harp would put me in 12th?

Really good. I'm not a big fan of 'sweet melodies' on the diatonic even by the top players. But this is actually good, very listenable to. Good choice of piece and position (whatever position it is!) to give a lovely haunting quality - which I think where the diatonic can shine.

And excellent control of bends including with and without vibrato. But you know that I expect :) Even the tough ones sounded as close to proper notes as I think a person can get.

Cm it is, but the relative minor is Eb, and that is where the tune gravitates during the bridge.
And Eb on a Bb is 12th.
Knowledge of positions is useful, but I am not the first to have discovered 12th without knowing what I was doing.
This is true on altered tuned harps as well.

Grey Owl, can you tell me what vibrato technique you are using on those bent 3-hole draws?

Thanks very much guys! Much appreciated.

Thanks for the extra info Gnarly.

Thanks for your support Wheel!

'Mind the Gap' I have played a lot of sweet melodies over the years and have been keen to stick with Richter. However there is a problem with bent notes on sweet melodies because even when you get close to good pitch (and even that can change from one run through to the next) there still remains the problem of the tonal difference between the blow/draw and the bent note. The tune above calls for a lot of bent notes and that can help in some ways because the the balance of unbent and bent notes balance themselves and the released bends addd to that haunting sound.

What I'm finding more unpleasant is playing a tune which only occasionally requires a sustained double bend on 3 after a lot of plain draw/blow notes. It stands out like a sore thumb even if played at correct pitch. I have to say I've toyed with the idea of playing a paddy richter harp where the 3 draw is tuned down a whole step, for sweet melodies.

Mind the Gap Our posts crossed! Im using a soft throat vibrato. Coming more from back of the tongue rather than a wide open throat position.

Thanks for the vibrato info.

Re melodies and the 3 bends - that's exactly what I think when I hear them. In the end I'm anticipating that note!
