Here's something different. In something more of a wearable watch, you now have a wearable metronome and there are plenty of harp players as well as musicians of all types who could use anything to get their time straight:

Very cool. I didn't see a price, but im sure it's up there.
I dig the vibration part. And the ability to save/create complex rythms.
I definitely need to work with a metronome more.

From what I understand, it's going for $99.00 US, which is certainly cheaper than something like the Fit Bit watches or the vast majority of smart watches on the market.
The vast majority of non pro harp players DEFINITELY need to get their time straight as well as most jammers, ESPECIALLY the drummers and bass players as well. ---------- Sincerely, Barbeque Bob Maglinte Boston, MA http://www.barbequebob.com CD available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bbmaglinte

Barbeque Bob: Thanks for the post! I was just ready to purchase a Metronome. I know a quality one will probably be $40-$50.I also know they have them very cheap as a phone app. I don't mind the price of the wearable, so would you suggest one of these instead of the other varieties.I am in definite need of better timing!!! ---------- And I Thank You !! I haven't tried this myself since this just hit the market today, as far as I know. I love the idea. I know of plenty of drummers and bass players that should have one (so it ain't just harp players, even they ARE notorious for having lousy time) and drummers and bass players with lousy time are lousy drummers and bass players (in the world of the pro, that's the number one reason for them getting fired). ---------- Sincerely, Barbeque Bob Maglinte Boston, MA http://www.barbequebob.com CD available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bbmaglinte

Up until about a year ago I hadn't used a metronome since the 60s when it sat on a piano. I love it. It adds structure in the shed and brings my noodles up a notch.

Clever that you can sink more than one device so your band can be on the same page, although, presumably that would be proprietary so when other devices followed suit you'd need to all have the same brand.
Seems like it would make a good smartwatch app, but shelling out $100 seems a bit much for a device with such singularly focused utility.
But still, it's clever and if it's durable being able to program in new beats might make it worth it.

On Facebook, which is where I found out about this, one of my FB friends who was a pro musician made a joke that he wondered if you messed up the time, it would give you a little zap, which I cracked up laughing at, but after thinking about it, this would actually make some sense to have this happen to remind them they're screwing up the time. It would sure beat the time when in a rehearsal when I was very young and f**ked the time, the drummer came within a inch of hitting me off the head with his drumstick, which sure did teach me a tough lesson in a hurry. ---------- Sincerely, Barbeque Bob Maglinte Boston, MA http://www.barbequebob.com CD available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bbmaglinte
