Hi MBHers,
...So, I have always loved the look of the Astatic UT-48's grille, I don't know how to post a pic to show you, but many of the microphone aficionados on the list will know what I am talking about.
Apparently they are super-rare. The T-3, which has the same size and shape body, is more common and I have seen guys like Dennis Gruenling make a "frankenmike" called a "UT-3", with the T-3 head and the UT-48's swivel (which is found on some other mics, so the swivels are not impossible to find).
Would it be possible to have some metal fabricator create a UT-48 design grille to fit an existing T-3 shell? Does anyone know if (a) it could be done; and (b) what type of metalworker would I even ask?
I was hoping some of you might have some insight. Thanks in advance!

I bet Greg Heumann at Blowsmeaway could make one. Just depends how much you can afford. ---------- Lucky Lester

Check with Greg. I know he makes custom grills for his wood mics. I seem to remember his page even tells you the specs he can cut them too.

If you want to post a phot0, I suggest that you upload it first to a freebie site called Photobucket, and once you've done that, you will have the code necessary to embed the photo and it's almost idiot proof.

I think this is the one you mean. I could do something similar but my process is different and I don't have the "resolution" to do it quite like that. More importantly, I'm afraid with the backlog I have, I have to reserve my customized grills for my wood mic customers.
It CAN be fabricated using CNC, casting or water jet. But you would find the price astronomical to get someone to do it for you.
