In a music store some 20-25 years ago I was pleasantly surprised to discover that Hohner extra reedplates could be bought. My opinion of Hohner being very low at the time, I was not that surprised when I later came to see that they didn´t fit on any of my Hohner harps. Well well, nice thought, I thought, and it just ended up on my loss account.
Much later when I found them in a drawer I asked online about them and was told that they were Meisterklasse plates -- not the Meisterklasse that can be bought now, mind you, but an older, discontinued model (that I´d been strongly recommended *not* to buy). Then I forgot about them again, but there you go, yesterday I happened to see that little black plastic case again in a drawer. It annoys me that they are still lying there, unused.
Anyone who knows of a trick to make them usable?

I have a set of discontinued Meisterklasse plates on a Crossover comb. Holes are drilled on the 3rd and 6th tine of the comb. This allows all five reed plate screws to be used to hold the plate in place. The reed plates started in another key (maybe G?) and were then re-worked so as to make a Low F#. My friend, Mike Mitchell, did all the mechanical & tuning modifications. The harp plays incredibly well and all bends are smooth as butter. The regular Crossover covers have been used with no reed rattle. I am unsure as to why your plates don't fit in a Marine Band or Crossover?

These old pre MS MeisterKlasse harps were very good. I still have one in Ab. They were the top of the line and I think they sold for around $80.00. I wish that Hohner hadn't discontinued them

I always heard good things about the old Meisterklasse. It's the new ones I heard bad things about!

I have enough combs and covers of all shapes and sizes that I am 100% confident that I could build you a harp using those plates and give you some options on how you want it to look - choices of combs and/or covers. Let me know. I would be happy to help you. ---------- Tom Halchak www.BlueMoonHarmonicas.com

A Standard Marine Band type comb is a little too large. You will need to shorten the comb on either end. You should have less trouble with the covers, though.
I offer custom combs made for the old-style (pre-MS) Meisterklasse. All the clearance holes, tine spaces and dimensions are correct for the plates you have.

When Hohner relocated from N. Carolina(?) about 1-2 yr. ago, they put some stuff up on EBAY. Pre MS MeisterKlasse reed plates were among the offerings. I bought up a few of them (limited keys). I adapted a few to MB combs and then discovered Andrew made the specific combs so I bought a few of them (highly recommended). I think I used MB cover plates. They are some of my favorite harps, but baring such a close resemblance to MB's, have gotten mostly lost in the mix.
Thanks for the reminder. I'm going to go rescue them right now. I think I'm looking for D's and F's. There was an A, but I gave it to an Okie folk singer one night when she tossed her Big River in the trash can.

I have two pre-MS meisterklasse builds.
One is on a zajac comb with hering covers. Truly fantastic harmonica.
I built another one on a hering comb .
The funny thing is,I am not normally a hohner user, but the pre MS plates ,on a zajac comb is one of the best harps I have!
In fact, trying to find out what would fit is how I found this site. ---------- www.shakeylee.com
