harmonica holders?

Hi. i'm new here, my first post. So, i recently decided i would love to learn to play blues harmonica. I used to play a little in high school in the mid 60s, all Dylan songs, using guitar and harmonica holder, i only knew one solo harmonica song (played with two hands), it was Oh Shenandoah.

Since those days, i got out of playing harp and never got far with it, i never tried to learn blues harps. i went nuts about blues guitar and guitar in general, and have been playing a lot of blues guitar ever since, various styles, plus other kinds of music on guitar.

now i would love to play blues harmonica, to jam with people and just to sit here at home jamming with music on you tube and iTunes on my computer etc.

I have one harmonica that i've had for a long time but wasn't playing, it was up in the closet and i found it by accident while looking for a clip on tuner, it's a Lee Oskar C harmonica, and it feels nice, sounds good. i found a few lessons, actually lots, on you tube and have gotten started, it was hard to get my head around coming home to the root note of the music with a draw, kept compulsively wanting to blow, but now it's starting to come around good, getting the feel of it.

so, i'm thinking i would also like to get a harmonica holder and be able to play, well, Dylan songs sound appealing, and also, to play blues, i'm thinking i'll get an A harp to play while playing E blues on guitar, if i understand the key thing right, since my C harp plays blues in key of G.

Back when i got the Lee Oskar, and i don't remember when it was, long time ago, at least more than 10 years, i also got a harmonica holder. It has always seemed useless, it's not like the one i had in the 60s, which was just a silver colored thing (which over time, rusted) that hung pretty snugly around the neck and could be bent up to the mouth or pushed away without any memorable problems, and it stayed in front of my mouth reliably. it's long gone. The newer one i got at some time is black, the part that goes around the neck is more circular than U shaped like the old one, it doesn't fit the neck snugly, it flops around, so maybe would fit a much bigger person, it isn't stable, and when i used to bend it up to my mouth, it didn't stay, it was loose, even when i tightened it. so now, i want to do some research into harmonica holders and how to get one that works like my old one did. Are there sources of information on this? thanks

I know a lot of people complain about the base models. I can't use them myself. They hurt my neck!

There are a few more upscale models. Try looking in the forum search, but use rack instead of holder. I think that is the more common name.

The other way to attack the problem is by attaching the harp to the mic stand. I know there is one that attaches with a magnet, and one that has a neat valve that you can turn to adjust the compression if you want a more Chicago sound.

Here is a link to at least one old thread on the topic:
