So cool. Visiting the museum may be the impetus I need to finally travel across the state and mooch off old friends in St. Louis. I knew the place was almost done, but that sign is fantastic
Thanks for posting the pic. Just great

I think that is a Blue Moon Hogany Comb! I was wondering who placed the order for that gigantic comb. Now I know. ---------- Tom Halchak www.BlueMoonHarmonicas.com

Mike, I saw the post yesterday on FB. I know more and more people jump the gun to try to pull off their April Fool's jokes, but I think it's legit.
It is a nice looking comb! I would have been tempted to have it facing out, but then you probably would have had birds nesting in it. (I actually like the idea of making crevices for bird housing in urban areas, but not so much where they'd poop on everyone coming in!)
Edit- Any of our science guys want to do some back of the envelope math and extrapolate how many 'lows' would go before the key on something that size?

There's a KMOX video from yesterday March 31st showing the (apparently brand spanking new, last finishing touch on the building kind of a deal) harmonica sign, so it's legit. And according to the vid one of the exhibits is a solid wallfull of harps.
Nacoran ... we have a few pigeons here in Chicago we really don't much need, so if you want more birds in your town just let us know .....

Re: the solid wallful of harps: I heard that one local harp player, Jim McClarren, had donated *some* of his old harps to provide the harps for this display. Word on the street here in STL is that this *some* amount was actually 900 harps!! I'll try to get to the bottom of the actual number he donated soon, but holy smokes, can you imagine having 900+ old harps laying around the house?!?

Well, yes, I can see how that might happen. I find myself wondering about his mic & amp collection.

I would have designed the sign to have been mounted on a central pivot so that it could rotate. Then one side would be the front with faux holes slightly recessed and painted black so that the pigeon's wouldn't have enough room to roost. Same with the back vents. While rotating, the polished stainless surface would reflect light and get everyone's attention for several city blocks. Under the marquis would be speakers mounted playing recordings of all the great blues harp players for about 12 hours a day. And one more thing...I'd round the edges more...they look like they'd be hard on the lips!
