Harp players can have several instruments on them and no one can tell. This is not the case with most other instruments. Tonight I made a run to Home Depot to get some screws and I saw another customer carrying a trumpet case. I asked him about it and he confirmed it was a trumpet, a Bach Stradivarius , which is probably why he did not want to leave it in his car. We left the checkout line at about the same time and when I got to my car I was about 75 feet from where he was parked. I pulled the plastic Allora trumpet I keep in the car out and blew a few notes. Shortly afterwards, he had his horn out and we were doing antiphonal improvisation across the parking lot. He was a lot better player but I was still a great impromptu moment between musicians. I did hear one customer stop and complement him on his playing as we put out horns away.

I thought I was hearing a strange echo once. I've got a weekly appointment and I park in the park and walk a couple blocks. I regularly use the walk, both ways, (and on good days I spend some time in the park too) to practice a little bit. I'll usually show up half an hour early on nice days.

Anyway, I was walking to my car after the appointment and that funny echo. I looked around and sure enough there was another harp player. We traded a few toots back and forth. Someone yelled out the window to them that they were sounding better. We waved. (They had some bends, but it sounded like they were fairly new to the harp.)

I saw a young man on a stoop another time, after a show. That guy could play circles around me.

I was out solo busking one day with backing tracks and heard a faint trumpet noise. There is a bicycle courier who carries a trumpet around with him to blow between jobs. (He introduced himself as TrumPeter. I'd been playing seriously for about 18 months at that time, but was able to trade a few licks with him. I run into him at music venues occasionally.
