I ve been interested in making some backing tracks. Not just for the sake of playing to them, but really to better understand each instrument better and the full make up of a song. I have a guitar (which i can barely play at all) and a key board (can't really play it either) . But i do know how to play the drums a bit, but since i don't have a drum set ill fake it with the keyboard. Maybe fake a few other instruments later on aswell.

Im trying to learn my way around the keyboard now anyhow. So I figure if i can atleast learn one 12 bar beat on the keyboard, guitar, drum and harp that will be a good start. The harp won't be a problem.

The question is really about gear. I don't have a computer right now. And i was thinking about a looper to record the tracks. And ive also just wanted a looper. This will take me a little bit of time to aquire, I'm not made of money, but i just want to know I'm not buying crap.

Any suggestions on gear? And on the project in general?

Edit: maybe suggestions about computer programs. Our do i even NEED a computer? This is not all i want a computer for, but. ....

I think the jamman stereo looks pretty good. Multiple inputs. Lot of good functions. Thoughts?

Ask Isaac. He probably knows the state of the looping world better than other regular posters. If he doesn't poke his head in we can poke him on FB.

Band in the Box is worth looking into. Just put in the changes and you can a get a ton of style to play to.

I really want to play all the instruments myself. If i keep it simple it shouldn't be that hard. But i want to use a looper, i think. So i can keep adding layers until it sounds right. But i want a looper that i can grow into. Not something im going to get tired of.

Id look into a Ipad with a high memory- you can use garage band and it comes pre-installed if I remember right use blue tooth to hook there small keyboard
even big name bands have used an Ipad to make there albums- you dont even need a state of the art one- just one with a high memory to store the tracks you could probably do it with a mini ipad
