I had a question for Tom. I was looking thru your photos the other day when you posted about the sp20 covers. I noticed this cover in perticular. I have a powder coating division at work and I've had them powder me a couple covers for my harps. I've been trying to explain this look to them because ive seen it done on other things. This is the exact color combo i was looking for infact. But they really just do industrial products so they don't know all the fancy stuff. Also what type of powder do u recommend? Is FDA good enough? Or is there something better? I have a few FDA base colors i could use, but i really dont want to order anything special as this is just for my personal handful of harps. ---------- ......." This is a color called "Silver Vein". I'm not sure how it is done. It involves two colors and I'm sure it they are mixed or applied in separate coats. I'd have to ask my powder coater. I have discontinued this color because it had a slightly bumpy texture. Smooth, but there was a texture to it. ---------- Tom Halchak www.BlueMoonHarmonicas.com

Yea i thought the texture would be cool, but i guess it bugged people.
What kind of powder do you use? If you don't mind telling me. If it's top secret or something thats cool. Lol. ---------- ......." Where Does He Get Those Wonderful Toys?" .......

I powder coated an old set of covers myself just to see how it would come out. I have some powder bought many years ago when I was making my own fishing gear. Probably not food safe... It came out ok, was a bit textured which I thought was cool, but had a couple thick ugly spots. I tried to sand them down, now it looks crappy. If you have one or two of those "silver vein" covers sitting around collecting dust, I'd be happy to give them a home.

I recently got some white Marine Band covers from Blue Moon. I highly recommend them, they eliminate the slight drag on the lips from the embossed Hohner logos ---------- Tony Eyers Australia www.HarmonicaAcademy.com everyone plays...

Powder coating is great for covers or harp mics too.
It is used on hospital beds and other hospital gear that may get scraped or scratched. It's just one of those perfect things for the job at hand. Silver Vein is a one step process as is Gold Vein. Also one of the easiest to apply if your prep isnt done right. I use a Powder primer on all my powders as a base coat, and then apply one or two more coats depending on the powder being single or two stage.
