I stumbled across this video the other day and thought Les did a pretty damn good job! There is a technique that he does a couple times but is probably the most pronounced at around 6:16 in the video. Was curious if anyone knows what that is called/of any tutorials? it seems kind of like a glorified warble/tongue flutter thing maybe? It sounds cool whatever it is, really mimics the sound of someone shredding on an electric guitar.

Enjoy!

Looks like he hit a pedal switch right before that. I don't know that effect for sure, maybe a * with a warble?

*Edit- Pixelator/digitizer... what is the name of that effect. That's not it. I used to have something like that on a multi-fx pedal.

Yep good catch you can see him stomp on something right before.. Definitely some sort of pedal with a warble.. Maybe a flanger of some sort?

Whatever it is (maybe an envelope filter or possibly a flange) it responds to his technique. So the sound is created by the interaction between his technique an the effect pedal, which, IMHO, is the best way to use an effect pedal.

Upon further review, I think it is an envelope filter or envelope follower a/k/a auto wah.

Ah, the auto wah. Isn't that the capital of Canada?

Steve Perry, the lead singer, looks kind of different. New haircut?

I miss the old Journey from the 70's....

Journey-- Kinda like the Eagles they had their time and shoulda left it at that
Singer looks silly- might as well play Steve Perry tapes-Shoen hasnt played a new solo in 20 years and his tone is horrible- a shame cause he used to be good

On the bright side Omar Hakim is a kick ass drummer

Les Stroud- have no idea who he is why not get him in a band with Steven Sagal.

Sorry for the venom but so many good musicians are totally un noticed while the same tired stuff continues on...

There is an interesting story about the singer, Arnel Pineda, who played in a tribute band. He is from the Philippines and was recruited by a member of the band who found and chose him via YouTube. Certainly made his day and should give hope to those with videos & big dreams. You can turn the sound off a watch some "kid in the candy store" enthusiasm.

I happened to watch a documentary. None of my many "Journey" tattoos are related to the band. :)
