LOL! I wouldn't worry about it too much. It has to be a very specific combination of names and sounds to summon that unwanted pesky player. I mean, there is a Tiffany Harp (famous Brazilian player) and our own patron saint here has 'Gus' in his last name. I understand Canadians are a little upset with the last name 'Harper' for reasons unrelated to harmonica. I'm not sure what the specific incantation is, but Gus Harper is probably just an innocent man with an unfortunate name. Now, if he happens to go by the nickname 'Gusser', all bets are off.
He says he's in manufacturing but something else suggests he's a cleaner (rag pusher), fancy dog breed enthusiast (pug sharer) or maybe even a musician (rap gusher).
I am proud to call a man by the name of August Harper a friend. Those who are close to him know him as Auggie but he has been known to use 'Gus' in order to maintain his privacy.
He is but one of a long line of entrepeneurs, going back as far as Robert Harper who started a ferry business in West Virginia, during the 1700s if memory serves.
He quietly hand builds coveted violins comparable to those of Johann Christian Hoffmann and employs the methods of old masters although he does have a Bridgeport mill and other modern conveniences.
If this is the same "Gus" I wouldn't hold his name against him. If he extends his hand in friendship I would not hold mine back. I can't imagine him having any interest in the harmonica but perhaps that's just his way of telling me he'd rather not hear mine. For the record, he is much more a craftsman than a musician.
My favorite name is a Detroit player by the name of Buck Steel...his real name. Parents must have wanted him to grow up to be a harmonica player. ---------- The Iceman
