It was at age 15, I heard a blues riff on harp at school played by a kid which totally hooked me on harmonica. I so wanted to be able to do that and I pestered him to tell me the technique.
Fast forward 51 years and blues is still a major drawing force for me. I have also enjoyed embracing other musical styles over the latter years.
This modern song which I’m playing on a Bb harp has proved popular with young guys/gals and prompted them to say I must buy a harp and learn to play which is great.
The song is ‘Happy’ by Pharrell Williams and is in the soul genre (sort of) and I like the vibe of the tune.
I do some improv at 2.26 to the end and almost slipped up at 3.14 which I totally cocked-up at a live gig :)
I like it. I think it's always important to mix a few songs in for everyone. My friend used to do a great acoustic Twisted Sister cover. It worked particularly well because it sounded enough different that you could see everyone in the room trying to figure out where they knew the song from (until the chorus, when the light bulb suddenly went on and they all started singing, 'We're not going to take, no, we ain't gonna take it, we're not gonna take it, anymore'.)
edit: I also saw a bluegrass cover of 'Oops I did it again' that absolutely killed!
