My 5 year old daughter has a toy microphone, a simple stick microphone with batteries and a speaker integrated at the bottom end. Is there anything like that, but a little more sophisticated, on the market? Just looking for a clean acoustic sound with enhanced volume.

I haven't seen anything on the market, but there was a guy from Japan that had made something DIY on YouTube. There is a video of it somewhere, but it was posted a few years back. I think he took two bullet shells and mounted them back to back to build it. It was a pretty heavily distorted sound. I liked the sound, but I think the general consensus was that it was a bit limited.

Of course, I've seen some harpers use a megaphone. Again, a pretty distorted sound.

Now, that said, I have seen some very small speakers that produce pretty good sound. I had a friend with some of those little cube Bose speakers that would be about the size you'd need for something like that. I think the problem would be that if you moved your head much you'd be changing where they were pointed.

(I've taken a look at possibly doing something DIY with something like the game controller mics for Rock Band/Guitar Hero (or even cannibalizing a computer mouse) to put controllers on a mic. If you ran it into a computer with some macros you could control your effects in real time from your mic.)

20 watts and has a siren to get a crowd. Detachable mic with 10 second recording function.

Hard as hell to get a good cup on that rectangular mic.

Some guy had a megaphone at the World's Biggest Busk in Bondi a few years back. He was sing/shouting through it. I whipped out the harp and had a go. Very distorted but worked somehow. You have to remember to press the trigger to keep the noise coming out (at least on the model I used).

Hey bronzewailer, there is a blues duo that appear on the show `housos´every now and then, the harp player uses a smaller megaphone and it puts out an awesome sound, perfect for busking. Don't spose you know the name of the dudes I'm talking about.

Sorry Ozblues66, I haven't seen that show. It looks a bit close to real life for my liking. :)
I will keep an eye out though.

If it's the same duo, I think they passed through Dubbo a year or two ago. The boss of one of the pubs showed me some footage on his phone. The short amount I saw looked good, but can they sustain a full 4 hour gig?

Yeah, I'm a western suburbs boy, that's what I like about housos,it takes the piss out of the people I grew up with. I swear they're based on all my old mates. Western suburbs should have spawned a lot more bluesmen. What a hard life. Sorry hannes, bit off topic.

It's probably the Mojo Bluesmen (says Dr Google). If it was, they are awesome. I haven't seen them live but watched a doco on them. My busking partner and I usually do three hours with no breaks and no repeats, so four hours is doable, but the guitarist gets sore fingers.

My record is seven hours of busking in one day by myself (singing and harp only).

Yeah sorry hannes, we are off on a tangent. The megaphone won't give you a clean sound in my limited experience.

Wow, I can't believe he found such an important piece of music history in a garage sale. Ha ha.

Everything important has been found at garage sales! You think Tutankhamun's mask was found by the British in a tomb? No! At a flea market in southern Cairo!

Nate - the element is called "The Super-human element" ;D

@Pistocat
I love it! Awesome!!!

Obviously you finally have found proof that in harmonica performance the right gear is everything!

I think I recall seeing videos on YouTube of LW playing through this rig... maybe.

@Pistolcat: Not exactly what I was looking for, but I'll definitely buy one for X-mas (for my daughter, obviously ...) ;)

Enjoyed your playing by the way. Very relaxed. Nice backing track, too.
