I tried to post a link to an MP3 using the template in the FAX thread but couldn't get it to work. Can anyone here give me the Peter Rabbit version of how to do it?

Dr.Hoy, you need to put your MP3 up on a web site or cloud service. Then you will be able to post a link to it here. There are many "cloud" storage services you could use. Most are free. I've successfully used Google's Drive service, Soundcloud, and box.com. If you have a Gmail account, you already have a Drive account.

THis is the third time I've attempted to post this: I used MediaFire as suggested in the FAQ.

You can also use dropbox, you get 2 gb for free, and you have a public folder, where I put the mp3, and the use the link in the FAQ. Works great for me.

Rogonzab, my understanding is that Dropbox no longer has a public folder for new members (those of us lucky enough to get in on the ground floor are grandfathered in).

I haven't explored it much since I have the old fashioned dropbox, but a lot of people use soundcloud. The only other way I've done it is to use Windows Movie Maker to turn it into a video. I didn't do anything fancy with it, just put some pictures of my mom's cats she had sent me in as a backdrop and then uploaded it to YouTube. At some point in the near future I hope to make some real videos.

Once it's on YouTube you can just hit share--->embed and cut and paste the code. (And Windows Movie Maker, if you are on a PC, is really simple too.)

And here are my mom's cats:

I'm not understanding how to use the code sited in the FAQ section, and when I try to copy it I don't see it.

I'm feeling really dumb. Why does it have to be so hard?

Okay, the first step is the file has to be on the internet. You can do this by uploading it to Soundcloud or another hosting service. (I use Dropbox because it lets me use different file types, but I'm grandfathered in with them so I can do some things a new member can't do.) Once you have it posted to the net you'll want to open two different tabs in your browser. One will be this page, and another will be where you have the file posted on the web (Soundcloud or whatever). Cut and paste this piece of code into the comment box:

<embed src="http://www.abc.com/anySoundfile.mp3" width="350" height="40" autostart="false" type="audio/mpeg" loop="false"></embed>

Leave this tab open, but go to the other tab for a second. Cut and paste the url of the sound file. Do this by right clicking on the file. You don't want the URL of the page, just the URL of the file.

Now, come back to this tab and delete the part of the code between the parenthesis and replace it with the pasted url code.

This should be all you need to do. Some of the hosting sites will even make it easier by giving you a button to click to get the whole code you need. If you can find one, it may be easier to use that, but it may give you a couple options. You want the option for embedding in a forum.

If you are still having problems, let me know exactly where in the process you are stuck so I can try to help you troubleshoot it.

Hi nacoran, thank you for that explanation. When you say parenthesis do you mean the quotation marks?

Yeah, sorry. Quotation marks. And I was an English Major! Doh.
