Buddy (F&*cking) Guy: Safeway Waterfront Blues Festival 2015 — on the night ...
Oregon Music News - ?13 hours ago?

so i clicked on google to check the news
and i see this headline.

since when is this an a appropriate headline
for the news?

it does not bother me in the least but i can understand
how some people would be offended.

in light of all the bad stuff that happens
this is a minor gripe. what the heck was the editor thinking?

headline news would be if he actually played some blues.
Last I saw him about 2 years back- he played a bunch of noisy sloppy blues rock -that was big on show but short on skill or feeling.
I am a big Buddy fan and found it disappointing that this was what he felt would move the crowd.

Blues rock aint good blues or good rock

I've seen him a couple of times in the past 10 or 12 years and if I was scammed or shammed it went completely over my head. The man can play and he is a showman in the best of the tradition.

I've seen him a few times.
The first time, he never finished a song. He'd get 3/4 of the way thru, the crowd would be digging it, and he'd stop.
"If you like that, you're really gonna love this."
Very odd, but still entertaining.
Another time, he played every song thru.
Very expected, but still entertaining.

Thank You! I've been wracking my brain for days trying to think of a name, and it wouldn't come. You say Buddy Guy and finally my brain goes, 'Guy Davis'. That's the name I couldn't remember. I've seen him live twice and I couldn't for the life of me remember his name. :P

There is, by the way, a female performer, who goes by 'Amanda F****** Palmer'. Maybe F****** is the new 'Sonny' or 'Doc', that little tag you put on your name to show you mean it?

I can't believe you guys are slaggin Buddy. I'm so @#$%^%$#% out of here.

Nah, jks. I'm from NZ and in the very early 90's, Buddy Guy came out for some concerts. I got to interview him for our local Musician's Magazine.

He was a totally humble and lovely dude and I enjoyed meeting him immensely.

I think people like Buddy as they get older become a little less stable and dependable, but as much as I love him - looking back, he was never about technical artistry much.

I think the draw always with Buddy Guy was his energy, heart, his singing (which could be really off the charts); you can't look to him as a guitarist as you would SRV. He's more like one big package, a personality.

And - like BB in his later years - Buddy's best years may be behind him

When you start over the top, you have no where to go, Buddy Guy has no where to go. His best work was with Muddy.

Yeah, this is a tough crowd. Can't comment on his live performance, but what's not to like about some of his recent stuff off the Rhythm and Blues album?

His recorded work is still very good. Sweet Tea was a fine blues album And like I said , I really like Buddy;s playing with Muddy Waters, Junior Wells etc. Hell , I even play one of his signature Strats

Its his live shows that are lacking. Yes he has energy but he plays very little straight blues and seems to feel that his energy/wildman persona is what audiences want. He always trots out that old story about Hendrix coming to see him a 100 years ago or whatever. I would much rather he mention Wells, Waters etc

But look-lets face it- the Rock crowd fills more seats than the blues crowd

I respect Buddy Guy= I just feel from his reliance on flash over substance and lack of attention to guitar tone/tuning in concert he is shorting his own unique talents

I love that headline, i love Buddy Guy and love what he does and hope he keeps doing it forever.
Yeah, I saw Buddy Guy countless times in the 70/80's, way, way way before the advent of SRV. One or two times on big stages, but mostly in small bars. And he did it all, playing behind his back, his teeth, just transfixing blues. Wow.
Today, I have seen a few of his shows, mostly in casinos or festival stages. It's just a different presentaion and a different crowd (more accepting then a few here) Yeah, the tix are ten times more then when I saw him , but he deserves every f^&*(ng penny.
. Sure, its long on show, but ok, that's show biz. I imagine his January shows at his bar in Chicago are long on his routine "from the good old days." And he actively promotes up and coming players, unlike many who "stole" his routine and cashed in.
Rock on Buddy Guy....he did it all before Hendrix and SRV and never got the same kudos. I say, give him flowers while he is still alive and not the accolades when he is dead.

Really, the man is a national treasure, a recipient of a Kenndy Center Honor, the National Medal of the Arts, Multiple Grammy winner, Lifetime Grammy award, yadda, yadda, yadda.
