i wonder if anyone has any experience with a harp tuned to a blues scale no bending or very little? ive been trying to play some sax parts ( old bebop bill Black songs) I can do it if i change the song a little but i would like to do it better. I would be willing to change the tuning of a harp to do it for just one song. anyone ever tried this?
Nod99, you could do that, but part of the sound of a harmonica is the way the timbre of the note changes on the bends so you might lose something. If you decide that's the way you want to go with it I'd try the blue tack method of tuning to see how you like it before you take a file to your reeds.
Alternative tunings are my bag-- Just started messing with this tuning, it's like Power Chromatic but with an extra hole (5 holes per octave), and although it is a diatonic tuning, you can draw bend every hole, so it's fully chromatic (unlike PC, which requires one OB per octave).
Here's another tune using this tuning--I just learned it tonight, but it shows how fluid one can sound--and no overblows (although this harp delivers them just fine--I am liking the 365 more and more--too bad I work for the competition!), just draw bends--every hole gives you a draw bend, and no reversal of breath direction.
Ooops, watch out, this is my entire YouTube channel--beware, you will wind up watching me all night!
