And I am enjoying playing it. It is good to remain teachable. Will keep you apprised of progress, or lack of it.

I believe it is something that may well blow Ted's mind for the first little while.
It looks innocent enough.......

I hope you're enjoying the new harp Ted, and look forward to hearing your thoughts on it and especially looking forward to you posting a video of you playing your sub30.

I believe it's a special harmonica with 30 reeds.

In one fell swoop, Ted has improved his playing technique by 50%. :)

@Barley

The SUB-30 is a 30 reed diatonic harp that was designed by Brendan Power and introduced on a production level by Suzuki in the summer of 2012. It has 20 reeds on the top plate and 10 reeds on the bottom plate. The genius of the design is such that it has the same breathing pattern as a standard Richter Tuned diatonic. However, in addition to the 20 "standard" reeds, there are 10 "Sympathetic" reeds that can be activated using the usual blow bend technique (holes 1 - 6) or draw bend technique (holes 7-10). The purposeof the design is to enable you to play chromatically on a diatonic harp - without having to master overblows and overdraws. In fact, it is indeed impossible to overblow or overdraw on a SUB-30. If you have ever played a valved diatonic like a ProMaster 350 Valved or a PT Gazell Seydel harp, it has the same pattern for producing the "extra" notes.

Ted - what key did you get?

I got the key of C, my go to Key when I am getting harp brand I haven't had before. I am noticing differences from other harps and there are mysteries to be solved, but I am enjoying this learning curve. What I notice the most is having to modify my embouchure , and that's not a bad thing. I am playing more ballads and jazz tunes by hear--notes previously unavailable are now there, after a little hunting and pecking through the blow and draw holes. And the improvs are interesting; believe it or not, I am playing faster. There is much to learn and I am a novice, humbled.

Careful Ted, if you play any faster you might just open a hole in the space time continuum! -I wish I could play that fast. :)

Keep us up to date on it. I've been thinking about putting it on my birthday/Christmas list.

I am having a ball with this thing. One thing I notice most conspicuously is that a good many notes normally "missing" in jazz tunes , ballads and other tunes I usually work around are there on the SUB 30. Nice. The improvisations sound as though they are taking new shapes as well. New neuro pathways are being created,perhaps. Video coming soon, I think.
