Hi all, blues harp was never my first instrument, but I have worked in bands as a harp player and I've done a little session work on harp, so I'm not a beginner, I just lost the faith for a while.
When I started Marine Band wasn't available in the UK, we had the Hohner Super Vamper, which in fact was the Marine Band with different covers and they cost something like 9/6d. nine shillings and sixpence! just under 50 pence today or a few cents Stateside!
I have always blown in first or second position never any further, but now its time to move on, especially for blues in a minor key.
I haven't gigged for years but now Id like to change that too, I'm playing acoustic guitar and harp in a rack in a John Hammond vein, something I have always done, so I'm well on the way to a come back, here's hoping, and hints, tips on positions would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Welcome to the forum.

You can certainly play in minor on a Richter tuned harp, but a minor tuning opens up a lot more chordal possibilities. You can by minors from most manufacturers or you can re-tune a Richter.

Welcome aboard!

I play minor both on my regular harps and on minor tuned harps. A nice minor tuned harp sounds real sweet though. 3rd and 5th are good choices for playing minor on a regular harp.
