I'm on a business trip at London on Sunday the 24th (and 25th). I have the Sunday totally free and thought I'd use this to learn something about the British blues scene. I know there are few members of this board living there and I wish somebody could tell me if there are any happenings there I could go and see..

The Aint Nothing But jam is pretty good. usully runs fom 4pm-8pm or thereabouts. Usually run by Niall Kelly, who has a fine line in between sets patter
If you're a die-hard then a 10min bus/tube away is the Blues Kitchen jam in Camden, which I understand is now on every week. Something like an 8pm start, maybe a little earlier. Often run by Guy Bennett of the Vulnerable Things www.theblueskitchen.com
Also, www.bluesinlondon.com is a great website to find out what's on
@Jfllr1 - are you a regular at the Sunday jam? I go along to sing/play there maybe once or twice a month

The other place to check out is the Charlotte Street Blues bar.
They have a weekly jam on Wednesday evenings but have live music every day/night of the week.

Thank's for the advice and the web addresses. I have actually visited Aint' Nothin But the last time I visited London. It was early in the evening at wednesday so there wasn't really anything going on, only like 3 people drinking beer. I didn't have patience to wait for the evening and the band so I moved on and went to the Charlotte St Blues Bar which I found from the web. There were lots of people and the jam session also, which was very good. But then again, I didn't have any friends with me so I didn't stay very long. It would be cool to meet some people from the MBH forum if you happen to be around at that time..

Ok, so tomorrow I'm flying to London. Hope to see some of you there as well as good live music. I'll be staying very close to Charlotte St Blues so I'm visiting that at least. Perhaps "Aint' But" also..

Should be going up there in about a months time Luke. The website has got directions to it (It's on Leyton high road) and there are plenty of parking spaces in the streets nearby the pub. Leyton tube station is about a 10 minute walk away also.
I'll give you a shout next time I'm going up.

ok, I'm now at London sitting in my hotel room. Went to the Aint' Nothin' But jams and even got on the stage.. It was my first jam session, it didn't work out perfectly and I was quite nervous at times but it was a good experience - I really learned a lot. I played harp and sang 3 of my own songs, although we didn't quite understand each others at the stage and so I had to improvise little more lyrics etc but considering the circumstances I think it went pretty ok. I guess it was bit hard for the players to follow me too as I sang in finnish.. ;)
It was also really nice to meet GamblersHand too, thank's for signing me up there! I think I wouldn't have had courage to do it myself.. :) I will definetly start to go to jams in my home town regularly as it really is good practice for the gigs and improvising. Btw, that was my first public performance with a crowd I didn't know. I had had only one performance before this at the parties with about 10 of my friends watching. I think it was full club today..
So thank's again, I'll go and get some sleep now.

I think aspkarp is being a little hard on himself here - it was an impressive London debut and it's great to hear some harp playing of that quality. And I believe it was also the first Finnish blues sung at the Ain't Nothing But Blues Bar!

At home again! it is only -9C now, when I left it was -22C. It was great visit to London in many ways, which of the jam was the top thing of course. Thanks for the cheers guys, it really was a step forward in my harpists career..
I think you are right GHand, it was perfect as it was - my discriminating mind just plays some tricks with me sometimes. ;) I really look forward my next visit to there althoug it.s nice to be back home again..
