Last week, I got a clear anodized aluminum Special 20 comb from Blue Moon Harmonicas as a birthday gift. I put it on my D SP20 that already had gloss black Blue Moon cover plates. The result is several steps up from a stock SP20. It's hard to understand without actually seeing one in person, but the aluminum comb is a beautifully machined piece of hardware, and in conjunction with the powder coated cover plates, it looks amazing. It also feels amazingly comfortable to play as there is not a sharp edge or rough surface anywhere on the harp. As for function, the aluminum comb surface is plenty flat where it meets up with the reedplates, and I could feel the contact vacuum that was created when I set the reedplates down in there. The harp plays great, and sounds more lively/substantial vs. the stock comb.
Congrats to Tom on his excellent work developing this comb - I will be ordering more!

Not taking away from any of Tom's other products, but these Special 20 combs are really nice, and are my favorite combs from Blue Moon. To appreciate the true beauty of them, you must open the backs of the cover plates. This really shows off the comb. The nuclear lime, cobalt blue and seaweed bay are my favorites so far.

Thank you Rusty, Harvey and Todd. Here are a few pictures of a set of custom Special 20’s I shipped yesterday. They all have Fancy Acrylic combs with the backs wide open and cover braces.

Hey Tom, are the rear cover supports available for sale? I'm using your combs on most of my SP20's and I've also got the covers opened. No crushing yet, but I like the idea of the supports.

Josh - I'll send you some. No charge. Super easy to install. Helps if you have a 2-56 tap but not absolutely necessary. ---------- Tom Halchak www.BlueMoonHarmonicas.com

Gary: I have no idea whether or not Turbolids will fit on my combs. I have never owned one or even seen one up close and personal. However, assuming they fit on stock Special 20 combs, I see no reason why they they wouldn't fit a Blue Moon comb.
A440 and Destin - Thanks for the love.

Tom, if you took a measurement of the comb, length plus width what would it be? The one issue with a Turbolid is that it snaps together, so if your comb is thicker or longer it might not quite fit.

If you look at the close-up of how they go together you could probably figure out if it will fit. Or, if you'd like, email me your mailing address and I'll sterilize and send you one in the interest of science and curiosity. :)

Nate. I accept your offer. My address is P.O. Box 14401 Clearwater, FL 33766
The interior dimensions of my comb are identical to the Special 20 reed plates + a couple 1000ths of an inch just you can get them in and out easily. That's pretty much the same as the dimensions of the stock SP20 comb. My combs are the same thickness as a stock SP20 comb. The lip around the edge of my comb is 26/1000ths" thicker than stock. ---------- Tom Halchak www.BlueMoonHarmonicas.com

I just tried to fit a "Turbo Lid" onto a Blue Moon Brass Comb but it was just a bit too long and thick. I was finally able to fit 1/2 of the Turbo on but it was to thick for the other half to snap, and I REALLY pressed them hard. But I love the Blue Moon Brass Comb just the way it is with the Special 20 covers...... :)
