I'm working on this great old song with a low F harp in third position in the key of Gm. It seems pretty simple, but I'd like to hear some good harp renditions from which I can get some ideas. Thanks.

Jawbone and Jolene's version in Am. Bushman diatonic in G I believe.

I was looking for the one we do where i use a Suzuki SCX in g, great song for chromatic in 3rd as well!

Hope you will share yours here when you get it worked out!

Try 4th position, the song needs that flat 6th.

This is the version in third. I've posted this before. Filip Jers playing on a C harp. You need to OB the 6 hole, though IMHO. http://youtu.be/rJqT3-8Wl-Y

Here is me playing in fifth on a Bb. http://youtu.be/v9fhsHn5-dc

Here is me playing on a C chromatic in third position. http://youtu.be/g3TJR8PyUwE

I re-wrote some of lyrics to St James Infirmary. This is my version, recorded 2011. Key of A minor. G harp in 3rd position. I did the harp, vocals, guitar and bass. Another did the drums

Rhythm Willie's "Breathtakin' Blues" is really the St. James Infirmary melody. He plays it in G minor on a Bb harp, probably the earliest recorded example of fourth position playing.

Paul Butterfield does a nice second position version on the CD that comes with his Blues Harmonica Master Class.

I have no recording to point to as an example, but in my fooling around with the tune, I find it lays out beautifully in 5th position, giving you two octaves (starting at 2 blow or 5 blow) where the melody notes are either natural or easy draw bends. Just a thought.

@ nacoran: Thanks for the youtube. I forgot about that. It was done at the Wednesday night practice of "The 1937 Flood" which takes place in Charlie Bowen's dining room.. Sometimes they let me sit in when their usual harp player, Sam StClair can't make a gig. (Sam is the one in the black t-shirt). Joe Dobs on violin, Randy Brown was guitar #1, Jacob Scarr guitar #2. It's always a good time at Charlie's

Here is me messing around with the melody of St.James infirmary on a g harmonica in second position. Been thinking about this one for a while. First time i've recorded much of anything I play. Thought i'd throw it out there for some ideas.

Why do you need a natural minor harp when it's already available in every Richter tuned harp?

You don't need a natural minor harp, but it gives some interesting chord options you don't have on a Richter.

For anyone interested, I have just tabbed out both notes and rhythm for St. James Infirmary for both the 5th & 3rd positions for the lower & upper octaves. See:
