Hi all. I haven't made a YT vid for some while (been busy), so I pulled out the camera (phone) yesterday morning and recorded a bit of a spontaneous jam on Marine Band in G, natural minor. I just turned the camera on, stomped a beat and then just played around the first riff that came out.

I've been doing a lot of this kind of thing recently, where I just start playing without thinking about it, and then just go with it. I've found it very freeing, and a nice counterpoint to focused practice on scales and composed songs. I've found that it really helps to hone the fluidity of your playing. You should try it too!

PS. Because the mic on my phone is so crappy, I did clean up the sound a bit in Audacity, but didn't doctor it in any other way than EQ, stereo expansion, and added reverb. Also, the way I'm holding the harp makes a big difference to the natural tone (I've got a video on it, if you are curious), plus, I've covered up the side-vents on the covers, which I find darkens and focuses the sound (more like a Special 20), which is more to my current tastes than the traditional brassy, wide-open MB tone.

THanks man, glad you liked it. Yup, unaccompanied tempo is definitely something I'm working on improving. I'm finding that playing this kind of stuff doesn't let you hid many flaws, so it really gives you a good idea on what you need to do to improve! :)

@Jinx Critical analysis and feedback is an essential key to learning. Just being a critic, however, well...

Don't leave us hanging, look at what Goldbrick wrote.

WHY does it not sound good (to you)?
HOW can he play it better?

Thanks Paul, that's the main thing: critique just to be a critic is generally unhelpful to everyone, and basically goes against everything about being a member of a harmonica discussion community. I, of course, don't expect everyone to like my playing, nor do I particularly care if someone doesnt like it. But as an aspiring amateur musician, its always helpful to know why someone may not dig it, ifbthey dont, just to see if I can learn from that opinion. Otherwise, its just useless chatter to me, and gets treated accordingly.
