Golden Melodys and Specisl 20s have a support sprue in the chambers. This gets in the way of using a tools to support blow reeds when tuning w/ a dremel. Like the one David Payne made and I think Gmaj7th sells one too.
I use a chopstick w/ a groove to clear the rivet on MB types but it's useless on stock GMs and SP/20s.
here's whatcha do. cut two slivers of a credit card ( like the ones they keep sending you in the mail). Cut them slightly smaller than the width of the harps chamber.
the credit card is the perfect height for your tool. glue the two pieces together. You can sand them if they are uneven after they dry. Oddly, two pieces of credit card glued atop eachother are the perfect size for this tool. Avoid embossed numbers. Let them dry overnight and remove the cover plates of the harp you are tuning. when wedged in the hole above the support sprue this simple device will hold the blow reed solidly in place w/out changing the shape of the reed. Now you can remove metal from the tip end of the reed w/ your dremel. or the rear, though I don't believe support at the fixed end makes much of a difference.
Hope this helps and you understand what I'm trying to explain. ---------- Affordable Reed Replacement Marks Harmonica Tune-up
