It's a vexing question... you are kissing a man (blech, but to each their own) a woman (fortunately I'm single so I'm not cheating anyone) or some inanimate object with no soul?

Language is a funny beast. I certainly think of my car as female. A musical instrument, if I was thinking of what was a 'manly' instrument, well, I remember in band back in middle school all the brass players were guys, and so were the percussion guys and all the woodwind players were all girls.

Guys tend to gravitate towards guitars, while you'll see more women playing ukes, at least on YouTube. Piano seems to be more evenly distributed, and there certainly are exceptions in all instruments. Judging by the mix on this forum harmonica seems to be played mostly by guys, although, again, there are lots of exceptions.

I know that's not quite the same thing as the instrument itself having a gender though. If it's a gender and our relationship is more than just with an object, is my C harp jealous when I pick up my D harp? :)

As I said about ten minutes ago (the post mysteriously disappeared):
They have holes, they must be female.

Haha, never thought of this. I'm going with female. If I was to refer to my brand new harp in this manner I would definitely say "she's" a thing of beauty.

I've given each of my harps a different female name. So if I want an A Harp I grab Betty
