USA based (Brooklyn), full warranty, blister pack so it's not old stock--this looks like a bargain. Too bad I don't need another harmonica (don't tell my wife). I did spring for the $7 cable from Reverb after a bandmate showed up with one at the gig on Saturday night LOL

I guess we will probably see a lot of price discounting on Special 20s over the coming 6-9 months. As Hohner starts shipping the new 2014 design, retailers don't want to be stuck with stock of the old model. The cover plates and packaging are different, but otherwise the same harp, I've been told.

I have been informed by people in a position to know that these harmonicas are not the current production model. The person who told me this said that Hohner Special 20s are no longer packaged in blister packs. I am not endorsing the purchase of these harmonicas. Let's face it, I work for Suzuki USA, why not buy a Suzuki. Thanks. Gary Lehmann Harp tech, guitar player, trying to be a good guy

I got mine yesterday. It wasn't a blister pack, it was a cardboard box exactly like the one in the ebay picture. I tried the three harps briefly, seemed like plain old special 20s to me. How does one tell if they are not the "current production model", anyways? After gapping, they will most likely be the same as all the other 20s in the gig case...

From what I observe, the current production Hohner harps have generally better reed profiles (curvature) than they did over a year ago. Although that's great, it's still mass-produced and just about every single new-stock Hohner harp still has some reeds that are far from the ideal shape. So while some reeds are better, it's still inconsistent from hole-to-hole.
So is this still a great deal? I would say yes. If they aren't sold out, buy them now.
EDIT: Sold out, but they have two of these left at the moment:
Special 20 Harmonica Key of C Mouth Harp
Now... if they were really old stock from the 80s and 90s, that would be a different story.
"Why not buy a Suzuki?" Why not indeed! Manji reeds are really something...
